Vinny Masino came into this Borgata Poker Player’s Series 500 Final Table with one of the shortest tournament resumes in the remaining field but that would all change within a matter of a few hours as Masino would claim the title and make the biggest tournament score of his career as he’d walk away with just over $47,000.
Maybe more importantly than the money, he’d win his first major poker trophy and earn himself a place in Borgata Poker history as the first ever BPPS champion outlasting a field of over 350 players in what was one of the most stacked fields in recent Borgata memory.
While Vinny came back from the last break with the chip lead, he wasn’t always as comfortably stacked as he was one of the shorter stacks just a few levels ago, but managed to parlay two massive hands against Mickey Woll to take control of the chip lead, something he would not give up for the remainder of the tournament.
Vinny was also in a dire situation during yesterday’s Day 2 session as he saw his chip stack drop over the last few levels to return to today’s Final Table with a below average stack and while some of the short stacks slipped early, Vinny did not, cooly and calmly picking his spots to chip up, waiting it out until the deck turned in his favor and it did in a big, big way.
There was no looking back once play got four handed as Vinny had his sights set on one thing and one thing only, the BPPS 500 trophy, which he’d win as he dispatched Renata Colache in 2nd place.
After the win, Vinny praised the structure and schedule of the Borgata Poker Player’s Series as he works for a financial company full time during the week and while he’s unable to attend the majority of the Borgata Poker Open’s big events, he knew that this would be a great opportunity to make a big score and fit in a well structured major tournament into his schedule.
The decision to come to the Borgata paid off in a big way as Vinny leaves today a winner, close to $50,000 richer and with the honor of being crowned the first ever Borgata Poker Player’s Series Champion.
The Player’s Series will return next weekend with BPPS 1000 and the blog will bring you updates during the week on qualifiers and provide you with information before Friday’s Day 1A flight.
